New Year, New Moon, new energy, new foundation, new trust, new hopes, new visions, new dreams…
This word… “new”… suggests something that had not existed before. We spend a day writing out our resolutions, things we have resolved to do or to change in the upcoming fresh start that is the New Year.
But how many of those items are truly new? I planned to lose weight last year, and the year before. I planned to write a book a few years added to that. We resolve to embrace the newness, and somehow… many times (speaking for myself)… find ourselves in the sameness.
What must change isn’t so much our desires, but that place of hesitation where we set a barrier in our minds. Sometimes that very barrier can be this “new” start that we so eagerly look forward to.
Why? How can a New Year become our own barrier to our goals and dreams? Because sometimes… we become so excited that we have this incredible, magical clean canvas to paint on… that when we fail to live up to our own expectations, and our magic paintbrush drops a splash of paint in a place we didn’t want…
…we long to be in that place where the canvas is blank once again. Clean. New.
“If only I had tried it this way.”
But what we must realize is that our newness isn’t contingent upon having a white canvas handed to us once again. We don’t need to wait for another New Year to roll around or for our external circumstances to change, because sometimes, they can’t.
What CAN change today, tomorrow, and every day that follows is our perception. Our beliefs. Ourselves. If that canvas you are handed today looks tomorrow like an awkward llama instead of the Sphinx of Egypt as you intended to paint, then celebrate that you just painted Kuzco… even if by accident. A new perspective can manifest beautiful things in your life if you are willing to see them!
Begin to embrace the ability your amazing, creative, incredible mind has to create newness in this very moment!!!
